Virtual Event: Saving the American Chestnut

*The event has already taken place on this date: Sat, 10/03/2020
The American Chestnut tree was once widely distributed throughout Connecticut until a fungus was introduced in the early 20th century. Nearly every American Chestnut tree was gone but there may be hope. Recent developments in hybridization and genetic selective techniques have developed trees that are resistant to the fungal pathogen. Citizen science has demonstrated to be one of the most useful tools in these advancements. The American Chestnut Foundation and it Connecticut chapter has been leading the charge.
