Before streaming services, podcasts, and cable television, audiences across the country tuned in weekly to thrillers such as Escape, Inner Sanctum, and Lights Out. While “Theater of the Mind” may seem antiquated by today’s standards, many of those techniques perfected decades ago are still being used to create indelible - and often frightening - “pictures” in today’s most bingeable media.

Using sound clips from some of the era's most famous and influential broadcasts, we’ll journey back to the mystery and horror programs of the Golden Age of Radio with Steve Darnall. For more than a decade, Mr. Darnall has been sharing his twin fascinations for American history and popular culture as the host of Those Were the Days and the publisher of Nostalgia Digest.
